Get Your Guide - Prague Ghost Walking Tour

To start off, join a walking tour. I prefer to have a unique experience on guided tours, so I often opt for solo walks. The Ghost Tour of Prague was an ideal choice, where I discovered the city's history, heard legends about various buildings in the Old Town, and even encountered some unexpected guests.

Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is a city rich in history, culture, and stunning architecture. It is also incredibly easy to walk around Prague and you can easily navigate the city without the need for public transport (although it's also easy to hop on and off the buses/trams).

Below are a few of the best attractions and activities to experience in Prague:

Prague Castle (Pražský hrad)

The largest ancient castle in the world, dating back to the 9th century.

  • St. Vitus Cathedral: A stunning gothic cathedral and the spiritual heart of the Czech Republic.

  • Old Royal Palace: Historical halls, including the Vladislav Hall, where coronations took place.

  • Golden Lane: A charming street with tiny, colorful houses that once housed castle guards and alchemists.

  • Castle Gardens: Beautiful, serene gardens offering panoramic views of the city.

Charles Bridge (Karlův most)

A historic bridge that crosses the Vltava River, lined with 30 baroque statues.

Stunning views of the city, lively atmosphere with artists, musicians, and vendors.

Charles Bridge offers stunning views of some of Prague's most iconic landmarks, including Prague Castle, the Vltava River, and the Old Town. The vantage points from the bridge are perfect for capturing picturesque scenes of the city

Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí)

Located in the heart of Prague's historic district, this area is surrounded by vibrant baroque buildings and gothic churches. It is a significant stop on the ghost tour route as well.

Places to check out here: Astronomical Clock (Orloj), Týn Church, St. Nicholas Church, and the Old Town Hall.

Astronomical Clock (Pražský orloj)

A medieval clock installed in 1410, the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest one still operating. Make sure to check out the hourly show with moving figures, detailed astrological and astronomical dials.

Lesser Town (Malá Strana)

Renowned for its stunning baroque architecture and picturesque streets, this historic district is dotted with souvenir shops and notable landmarks such as St. Nicholas Church, Wallenstein Palace, and the peaceful Kampa Island, making it a delightful place to explore on foot.

Jewish Quarter (Josefov)

The historic Jewish ghetto, home to well-preserved synagogues and the Old Jewish Cemetery. One of my favourite shops was in the Jewish Ghetto area, fresh gingerbread made on site.

Old-New Synagogue, Jewish Museum, Spanish Synagogue, and the Jewish Cemetery.

Dancing House (Tančící dům) and Sculptures of Prague

A modern architectural marvel designed by Frank Gehry and Vlado Milunić. This is brilliantly lit in the evenings, giving a fun twist to the standard buildings around.

You can locate the sculptures on the Lesser Town side of Legion Bridge. While it may require some wandering around due to ongoing building work, it is definitely enjoyable to see.
