4 Must-Visit Destinations in Bangkok for Your Next Trip

Updated: Sep 28

Bangkok is known for being a perfect holiday destination in Asia and the lively city definitely lives up to its reputation. From temple hopping to bar hopping, Bangkok has something for everyone.

My focus was sightseeing and here you'll find my top sights of Bangkok!

Bangkok Sights

  1. Grand Palace

  2. Wat Benchamabophit

  3. Wat Pho

  4. Wat Arun

  1. The Grand Palace

Stunning! Worth the 500baht entrance!

You could spend hours exploring the enormous palace grounds, I would definitely recommend that you give yourself 2-3 hours here. There's history and beauty to be uncovered within The Grand Palace. Following with the general rules for Thai temples, shoulders should be covered as should your knees.

*Don't be fooled by the sales people outside, I was wearing a long skirt but with a split and they told me I wasn't allowed inside, however the security had no issue with it as it was covering my knees either way.*

2. Wat Benchamabophit

Quite frankly, my favourite to say and a hidden gem. This temple is not mentioned in everyone's reviews of Bangkok and I have no idea why! It is tucked away in the middle of the city, away from the bustle of Tuk Tuk's and Markets. Entrance here is 50baht and while it isn't as big and eccentric as some of the other Wat's, it's absolutely worth a visit.

This temple area has another area inside it which you must visit without shoes. The whole temple area has the gold and orange detailing which just makes it even more stunning.

3. Wat Pho

A small walk (15 minutes) away from The Grand Palace, you can find the entrance to Wat Pho. This Wat has a foreigner only fee of 200baht and I would recommend you take a visit here. Wat Pho is the home of The Reclining Buddha statue, which is situated in one of the smaller rooms (you can grab a map from the entrance).

Again, knees and shoulders should be covered in Wat Pho.

Around 1-2 hours would give you enough time to truly explore the fabulous design of the temple. I visited in the afternoon (1pm) and it was fairly quiet here.

4. Wat Arun

Wat Arun is beautiful but I would consider it my least enjoyable on this list. This was the busiest temple we visited and the crowds were overwhelming. Granted we arrived in the afternoon, so it was to be expected. Entrance fee is 100baht and you'll have a short walk into the temple's main area after purchasing a ticket. Again, knees and shoulders should be covered or you will be asked to purchase clothing from the vendors.

Wat Arun is more compact than others so an hour or two hours would be plenty here.

Let me know what your top sights in Bangkok were!
